How did International Macaque Week Start?

International Macaque Week was founded by Barbary Macaque Awareness and Conservation. Initially it was a single-day event to be held annually in March - but there was so much enthusiasm that it was quickly extended to a whole week.

Since 2024, International Macaque Week has been coordinated by the AfA Macaque Coalition (MACC).
