International Macaque Week
International Macaque Week (IMW) is observed annually and dedicated to raising awareness of and empathy for one of the world's most persecuted groups of primates.
IMW was founded by Barbary Macaque Awareness and Conservation (BMAC) and is coordinated in 2024 by the AfA Macaque Coalition (MACC). We invite NGOs, sanctuaries, zoos, educational institutions and others to join forces in celebrating these magnificent creatures.
Each year, during the first week of May, IMW is an opportunity for macaque enthusiasts worldwide to showcase their combined commitment through a variety of activities. Whether it's a heartfelt social media post or an elaborate fundraising event, every action contributes to the cause.
Participate in IMW and make a difference in the lives of macaques. Let's unite in our efforts to ensure a brighter future for these incredible animals!

Macaque Positivity: Celebrating Macaque Lives
Macaque positivity means appreciating and sharing our enthusiasm for this amazing but often misunderstood group of monkey species for who and what they are: thinking, emotional and intelligent primates, each of whom has an interest in living a good life.
Macaques, particularly a handful of the approximately 24 species spread across Asia (and in the case of the Barbary macaque, North Africa), are among the most heavily exploited wild mammals on earth.
During International Macaque Week, we will focus on exploring and sharing what makes macaques special!
